OUR STORY

Our story begins, uniquely enough, with procrastination! The year was 2016, and the setting a small dorm room at St. Francis Xavier University. I was studying for exams at Christmas time, and after many hours of binge-reading, I needed a break. So, I picked up my phone and opened up YouTube, and had one of those odd recommendations for a video that we all get - the kind where you don't know why they suggested it, but are pleasantly content that they had - about someone building birdhouses. From that moment, I was pulled into the rabbit hole.

I watched hours of videos of different makers building all kinds of different things, and eventually landed on a video of someone making a cutting board. I thought that it was pretty darn cool, and that I would like to try my hand at something like that. Christmas break rolled around, and while home, I borrowed tools from several of my neighbours to make my very first cutting board, which I planned on giving to my mother as a present.

The first board I made was, predictably, rough, and not all that nice - but it was a start! I knew I enjoyed the process enough that I started saving money up to buy some tools of my own. I slowly honed my craft through a combination of study and practice, and slowly collected more tools and new skills. The rest, as they say, is history!

ABOUT ADAM

Hi! In case you didn't know, I am Adam - the man behind the curtain here at Nutshell Woodworks!

I was born and raised right here in Bathurst, New Brunswick. I attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia for four years studying Bachelor of Business Administration and Marketing degree, and it was during that time that I began woodworking as a hobby.

In 2018, I saw an opportunity to move back home and do what I love; building useful, lasting items. This hobby has given me an avenue to pursue a dream of mine while staying here at home in the Chaleur Region.

Since then, I have had the pleasure of making more cutting boards then I can possibly count, and have had the chance to meet a many other great and talented woodworkers, build connections with local businesses and suppliers throughout Atlantic Canada, and partner with a number of retail stores that I can proudly say carry my products!

It is thanks to the support of my loving family and friends that I have been able to do this - and of course, you, reading this! So, from the deepest reaches of my heart, thank you all for your wonderful support – it is thanks to you that I am able to do so, and it means the world to me.
